Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father had left the family of Ford, they were taken care of by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. When she was a young girl Ford was diagnosed with an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford began acting during her teen years and joined a member of the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one week she decided it wasn't suitable for her. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get the position on her 4th application. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut when she appeared in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in such television shows as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate also performed regularly at the theater, ultimately being a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up comedy and humour, which she added to her repertoire in the year 1996, was soon gaining the attention of her peers.
